Broken Lizard Celebrates International Haiku Poetry Day (and promotes new movie, "Quasi")

Broken Lizard, the comedy group behind classic movies like Super Troopers and Club Dread, celebrated International Haiku Poetry Day on April 17th by posting their own haikus on social media. But that’s not all they were promoting - their latest movie, Quasi, also got some attention. Quasi is about a man who realizes he’s been living a false life as part of an elaborate government experiment. The trailer promises plenty of laughs and absurdity, something Broken Lizard is known for. In addition to promoting their movie, Broken Lizard’s haikus were a fun way to engage with fans and showcase their silly, irreverent style. Some haikus were inspired by their previous works (“Rob Lowe in Spandex / Bears Want to Eat Our Faces / Farva craves Thorny”), while others were completely new (“Two Jews and a gent / They walk into a bodega / Hilarity”). International Haiku Poetry Day may not be on everyone’s radar, but it’s refreshing to see a group like Broken Lizard participate in a quirky way that aligns with their brand. Plus, it’s always nice to see creative people pushing boundaries and trying new things. Who knows, maybe some viewers will even discover the joys of haiku poetry along the way.
