So I read this article about how CNN and Kennedy Center’s annual awards show won’t be featuring any Trump jokes this year. Apparently, some comedians are pretty miffed about it! Basically, in the past few years, the awards show has been pretty political and featured a lot of jokes about Trump and his administration. But this year, they’re toning it down a bit and trying to focus more on the artists being honored.
Personally, I think it’s a smart move. While I definitely enjoy a good political joke, sometimes it can get a little tiresome hearing the same thing over and over again. Plus, the awards show is meant to celebrate the amazing talent in the arts world, so it seems fair to give them the spotlight they deserve.
Apparently, some comedians aren’t thrilled about it, though. Michelle Wolf, who made some pretty controversial jokes at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, tweeted about how she’s “placing bets” on how long it will take for the Trump administration to “call the FCC and shut down” the awards show.
Overall, I think it’s interesting to see how this shift away from political jokes might impact the awards show. Will it be less controversial? More boring? Who knows! But either way, it’s worth keeping an eye on.
