So, I just read this article about how Disney+ is cancelling their planned ‘National Treasure’ TV series. Apparently, the project had been in development for a while, but they ultimately decided not to move forward with it.
From what I understand, the series was going to center around a young Latina protagonist who teams up with a diverse group of fellow treasure hunters to uncover hidden artifacts and solve mysterious puzzles. The concept sounded pretty cool to me, so I was a bit bummed to hear it won’t be happening.
The article didn’t go into too much detail about why the show got canned, but it did mention that Disney is supposedly focusing more on established franchises for their streaming content. I guess that makes sense from a business standpoint, but it’s a shame that they’re not taking as many risks with original ideas.
Personally, I’m a big fan of the ‘National Treasure’ movies, so I was curious to see how a TV series might expand on that world. It’s always disappointing when something you’re looking forward to gets cancelled or delayed, but I’m sure there will be plenty of other exciting shows to watch in the meantime.
Overall, it’s interesting to see how streaming services are navigating the challenge of producing new content while also satisfying fans’ desires for nostalgia and familiarity. Hopefully we’ll still get plenty of creative and innovative projects in the future!
