So, I came across this article about Elijah Wood and his thoughts on new ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies. Apparently, he hopes that they’ll be made with reverence and artistry rather than just for the sake of making a lot of money. As a die-hard LOTR fan myself, I can completely relate to what Wood is saying here. There’s nothing worse than when a movie or franchise is clearly just being milked for profits instead of being treated with the respect it deserves.
From what I gathered, Wood was a bit critical of the Hobbit films because he felt like they were rushed and didn’t stay true enough to the source material. Personally, I have to agree with him there. Don’t get me wrong – I still enjoyed the Hobbit movies – but they definitely felt a bit more formulaic and cash-grabby compared to the LOTR trilogy.
Overall, I think it’s important that studios are mindful of why they’re making new movies in established franchises like LOTR. If it’s just about making a quick buck, then the quality of the movies is likely to suffer. But if the focus is on crafting a truly great movie that pays tribute to the original source material, then I’m all for it.
I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with future LOTR movies, and I’m hoping that Elijah Wood’s comments will be taken to heart by the people making those movies. It might not guarantee that they’ll be perfect, but it’s a good reminder that sometimes less is more when it comes to art and storytelling.
