So I was just reading this crazy article titled “Iran protests: Secret committee ‘punished celebrities over dissent’” and it’s honestly wild. Basically, during the protests that erupted in Iran after the government admitted to mistakenly shooting down a Ukrainian passenger plane, a secret committee was formed to punish celebrities who were speaking out against the government.
This committee apparently could do whatever they wanted without any sort of legal oversight, and they punished people by canceling their concerts or preventing them from appearing on television. It’s pretty scary to think about, honestly. I can’t imagine living in a place where you can’t even speak out against something without fear of being punished.
But honestly, it’s not that surprising. The Iranian government has a pretty bad track record when it comes to suppressing dissent, and it’s not like this is the first time they’ve done something like this. It’s just another reminder of the importance of freedom of speech and how lucky we are to live in a country where we can speak our minds without fear of retaliation.
At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that people in Iran are still fighting for their rights and freedoms and we should support them however we can. And who knows, maybe one day we’ll be reading articles about how they finally succeeded. One can only hope!
