Long-time Leidos employee Wayne Jacobs on progress in diversity over three decades and his best career advice

So, I read this really interesting article the other day about a guy named Wayne Jacobs who’s been working at Leidos for over 30 years. He’s seen a lot of progress in terms of diversity in the workplace over that time, and has some great career advice to share.

Basically, Jacobs started out as a technician and worked his way up to a managerial position. Along the way, he’s noticed that the company has become much more inclusive and open-minded when it comes to hiring and promoting employees from diverse backgrounds. He credits this to a shift in attitudes within the company, and also thinks that it’s a reflection of broader societal changes.

One of his best pieces of career advice is to focus on building relationships with your colleagues, rather than just trying to climb the ladder as quickly as possible. He believes that having strong connections with your coworkers can help you to learn from them, get their support when you need it, and ultimately become more successful in your role.

Personally, I can definitely relate to the idea of building relationships at work. I’ve found that some of the most valuable insights and opportunities have come from networking with people within my organization. And it’s always easier to work with people you like and trust, right?

All in all, I think Wayne Jacobs’ story is really inspiring. It’s great to see that some companies are making real progress when it comes to diversity, and his advice about building relationships is definitely something to keep in mind. We all want to succeed in our careers, but it’s important to remember that it’s not just about climbing the ladder - it’s also about connecting with the people around you and building a community of support.
