Mick Mars, the legendary guitarist of Mötley Crüe, is taking legal action against his own band. The rocker filed a lawsuit against bandmates Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, and Tommy Lee, accusing them of going back on their word regarding the band’s reunion tour. Mars claims that the band had agreed to never tour again after they concluded their Final Tour in 2015, but have since announced a new tour in 2022.
Mars is seeking damages, as he claims the new tour will exacerbate his health issues, including ankylosing spondylitis, a rare form of arthritis that affects spinal joints.
The band has not yet responded to the lawsuit.
This news is shocking for fans of the band, who were eagerly anticipating the upcoming tour. Mötley Crüe has a long history of legal conflicts, including disputes over ownership of the band’s name and royalties. With this latest lawsuit, it appears that tensions within the band are far from resolved.
The legal battle also highlights a larger issue in the music industry: the tension between artistic freedom and financial gain. On the one hand, artists want to create music they love and perform for their fans. On the other hand, financial pressures and contractual obligations can force them to perform even when it’s detrimental to their health or artistic integrity.
As fans, we can only hope that the band can resolve their differences and continue to make the great music that has inspired generations of fans.
