So, I came across this article on Engadget about Netflix cutting down on producing original movies, in its quest to improve the overall quality of its productions. Apparently, the streaming giant is planning to reduce its annual output of films by 50%, with hopes of increasing their impact and viewership.
Basically, the folks over at Netflix realized that they were overloading their content library with mediocre movies, and few were actually standing out in terms of popularity or critical acclaim. By trimming their production schedule, they’re hoping to focus more on creating higher-quality films that capture audiences’ attention and generate buzz.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that we won’t see any more original movies from Netflix. In fact, they’re still planning on releasing a bunch of new films this year, including some that have already garnered quite a bit of attention like Mank and The Trial of the Chicago 7.
As for me, I think this is a smart move on Netflix’s part. As someone who spends way too much time scrolling through their seemingly endless list of movie options, I can understand the need for streamlining their offerings. Plus, as a viewer, I’m always looking for quality over quantity.
Overall, it’ll be interesting to see how this new strategy plays out for Netflix. But for now, I’m excited to see what kind of cinematic gems they have in store for us in the future.
