So, I just came across this crazy article about Netflix shutting down their DVD-by-mail business. Honestly, I had no idea they still did that! But apparently, they’re finally putting an end to it after over two decades.
Executives explained that the decision was based on the fact that streaming has become the most popular way to watch movies and TV shows. It just makes sense for them to focus on their streaming service and put all their resources into it.
But what really caught my attention was the explanation they gave for that Love Is Blind snafu. If you haven’t heard, apparently some viewers were accidentally sent the wrong discs and ended up getting spoiled for the ending. Yikes!
According to Netflix, this was due to a “dvd technology mismatch” and they’ve apologized for the mistake. It’s crazy to think that in 2021, something as simple as sending out the wrong DVD can cause such a huge controversy.
Personally, I haven’t used a DVD in years. Everything I watch is on streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, or Disney+. And I have to admit, it’s pretty convenient to have everything in one place.
Overall, I think this is a smart move for Netflix. It’s clear that the future of entertainment is in streaming, and they’re definitely leading the way in that department. But it’s also a reminder that technology is constantly changing, and we have to adapt with it. Who knows what’s next? Maybe we’ll all be watching holograms one day.
