‘Next chapter’: Owner wants to make the 31st Street Studios in the Strip a big draw, just not for movies

The 31st Street Studios in the Strip District of Pittsburgh has been known to serve as a movie mecca. Its vast complex hosts top-rated productions filmed in the area, such as Marvel’s “The Avengers” and Netflix’s “Mindhunter.” However, the owner of the studios is setting their sights beyond the film industry.

According to the Pittsburgh Business Times, Davis Guggenheim, founder of the production company Concordia, purchased the property in 2019 with the end-goal to bring more creative individuals to the area. Guggenheim plans to transform the expansive area into a sort of creative campus, offering innovative coworking spaces and artist spaces. These spaces will be open to artists of all mediums, from photographers to painters.

In addition to this new vision, Guggenheim stated that the studios will continue to attract moviemakers, offering them top-of-the-line facilities and an experienced crew.

This change of plans could benefit Pittsburgh in numerous ways, not just financially. As the city attracts more creative talent, it could serve as a hub for artists, inspiring and influencing local creative works.

In conclusion, while the 31st Street Studios has been a well-known player in the movie industry, it’s exciting to see the owner’s newfound goals for the expansive land. With the potential to serve as a new, creative hub for the city, it could mark the start of a new era for Pittsburgh’s art community.
