Oregon lawmakers close to hiring official to address workplace harassment and retaliation complaints

So I recently read this article about how Oregon lawmakers are super close to hiring someone to deal with workplace harassment and retaliation complaints. Honestly, it’s about time! From what I gathered, this official will basically be in charge of making sure that workplaces in the state are held accountable for any inappropriate behavior towards employees.

This issue is definitely something that hits close to home for me - I’ve experienced my fair share of harassment and discrimination at a few different jobs. It’s frustrating to think that some people in power can get away with treating their employees poorly without any consequences.

Anyway, the new hire will be responsible for investigating complaints and ensuring that companies are taking steps to create a safe and inclusive work environment. The position will be within the Bureau of Labor and Industries and will be funded through money allocated from the state budget.

Overall, I think this is a step in the right direction. It’s important for workers to feel safe and valued in their workplace, and having someone dedicated to addressing harassment and retaliation complaints is a good start. Let’s hope this catches on in other states too!
