Princess Anne: ‘Slimmed-down’ monarchy isn’t ‘a good idea’ after Megxit

I just read an article about Princess Anne and her thoughts on the monarchy’s future after Megxit. Basically, Princess Anne thinks that a “slimmed-down” monarchy, with fewer working royals, isn’t a good idea. She says that the family needs to keep busy in order to be relevant and useful, and cutting down the number of working members could lead to a loss of public support.

To be honest, I see where she’s coming from. When I was growing up, the royal family seemed like this distant institution that didn’t really have any relevance to my life. But now, with social media and the constant news cycle, they play a much bigger role in our society. And even if some people don’t care about them personally, they still bring in a lot of tourism revenue and generate interest in British culture.

At the same time, I can see why some people might want a smaller and more streamlined monarchy. The royal family costs a lot of money, and some people don’t think it’s fair for taxpayers to foot the bill for their fancy lifestyles. But as Princess Anne points out, a smaller monarchy might not be able to do as much good in the world, and could ultimately hurt Britain’s image abroad.

Overall, I think it’s an interesting debate. Personally, I’m a fan of the royal family (I mean, who doesn’t love a good wedding or baby announcement?) but I also understand why some people might want to see changes. Regardless of where you fall on this issue, it’s clear that the British monarchy will continue to be a source of fascination and controversy for years to come.
