Push for personal finance as a graduation requirement

So I just read this interesting article about how some states are pushing for personal finance to be a required course for high school graduation. Basically, the idea is to teach kids about things like credit scores, budgeting, and investing so that they don’t end up completely clueless when they start adulting.

According to the article, only 21 states currently require high school students to take a personal finance course to graduate. That seems crazy to me! I mean, I remember being totally lost when I got my first credit card and had no idea how to make a budget or save money for the future. If I had learned about those things in high school, I definitely would have been better prepared for the real world.

The article also talks about how some people are worried that adding a personal finance requirement to high school curriculums will put even more pressure on teachers and schools, especially considering how overworked and under-resourced many of them already are. But honestly, I think it’s worth it if it means that more young adults will be able to handle their finances responsibly.

Plus, as the article points out, financial education can have a huge impact on people’s lives. It can help them make smart decisions about things like buying a house, starting a business, or even just saving for a rainy day. So to me, it seems like a no-brainer that more states should require personal finance as part of their graduation requirements.

All in all, I think it’s great that this issue is getting more attention, and I hope that more schools start prioritizing financial education. It might not be the most exciting subject, but trust me, it’s a lot more interesting than trying to figure out how to pay off credit card debt when you have no idea what you’re doing!
