Report: Disney World in Orlando to Host Conference on Gay and Transgender Rights in the Workplace

As reported by LGBTQ Nation, Disney World in Orlando will host a conference on workplace rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) employees. The conference, called “The LGBT+ Workplace: Embracing Change,” will take place on October 9th and will be put on by the LGBT+ Center Orlando.

The conference aims to educate employers on creating inclusive work environments for LGBTQ employees. Attendees will hear from a variety of speakers, including representatives from Disney, the Human Rights Campaign, and Equality Florida. Topics to be discussed include gender identity, the impact of the 2018 midterm elections, LGBTQ healthcare, and how to create a successful employee resource group.

This is not the first time Disney has shown support for the LGBTQ community. In 1991, Disney World hosted the first Gay Day, an annual event that brings together LGBTQ individuals and their allies.

The conference is particularly timely given recent proposed policy changes by the Trump administration that threaten to roll back transgender protections in the workplace. In addition, according to the National Center for Transgender Equality, 27% of transgender adults have reported being fired, not hired, or denied promotion due to their gender identity.

This conference is an important step in creating safe and inclusive workplaces for all employees, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. It shows that major corporations like Disney are willing to take a stand and work towards creating a more accepting and diverse workplace.
