Sales tax holiday: Which emergency preparation supplies qualify?

As hurricane season approaches, many people are stocking up on emergency supplies in case of a natural disaster. If you’re in Texas, you can save some money on these supplies during the upcoming tax-free holiday weekend from April 24th to 26th. However, it’s important to note that not all emergency preparation supplies qualify for the sales tax exemption.

The Texas Comptroller’s office has released a list of items that do qualify, such as batteries and flashlights priced under $75, ice chests and portable generators priced under $3000, and hurricane shutters and emergency ladders priced under $300. Some items not included on the list are chainsaws, camping stoves, and certain types of batteries and coolers.

It’s crucial to take advantage of this tax-free holiday if you’re in Texas and need to stock up on emergency supplies. Any little bit of savings can go a long way in tough times, and being prepared for a natural disaster can potentially save lives.

As the weather becomes more unpredictable and natural disasters become more frequent, it’s important to make sure you and your loved ones are prepared. Don’t miss out on the savings during the upcoming tax-free holiday weekend, and make sure to double-check the list of qualifying items before you make your purchase. Being prepared could make all the difference in an emergency situation.
