Yo, did you happen to catch the latest article about Sarah Michelle Gellar and ‘Cruel Intentions’? I was scrolling through some news and stumbled upon it. Basically, fans have been wondering if Buffy herself is going to be involved in the upcoming TV adaptation of the 1999 film. And guess what? She finally spilled the beans!
So apparently, Sarah Michelle Gellar briefly discussed if she’s going to be playing Kathryn Merteuil again in a recent interview. And she said that while she’s flattered fans want to see her in it, she won’t be involved in the new show. Womp womp.
As someone who was obsessed with the original movie in high school, I was definitely curious about this news. I mean, I could totally see SMG reprising her role as the conniving and seductive Kathryn. But I guess we’ll have to wait and see who they cast instead.
In case you need a refresher, ‘Cruel Intentions’ follows the twisted love triangle between step-siblings Kathryn and Sebastian, and naive prep school student Annette. It’s a dark and sexy drama that became a cult favorite in the late ’90s. And apparently, the new show will be a continuation of the movie’s storyline, with Kathryn as the main character.
Overall, I think it’s interesting to see how Hollywood nostalgia is influencing the TV industry these days. From ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ to ‘Full House’, we’re seeing a lot of TV show reboots lately. And while some people might roll their eyes at the lack of originality, I think it’s fun to revisit some of our favorite characters and stories. Who knows, maybe ‘Cruel Intentions’ will be the next big hit.
But either way, it’s nice to know SMG won’t be involved in the new show so we can put that rumor to rest. And who knows, maybe she’ll pop up in a surprise cameo or something. One can dream, right?
