Young adults are giving up on home ownership, and a lot of them are furious about it

As more and more young adults are finding themselves unable to buy a home, they are beginning to feel the sting of anger and frustration. According to a recent study conducted by Apartment List, nearly 85% of young adults feel that owning a home is a crucial part of the American Dream. But with record-high home prices and mounting student loan debt, many millennials are being priced out of the market.

The study showed that even as the majority of young Americans aspire to own a home someday, the reality of the market is pushing homeownership out of reach for far too many. As a result, many young adults are feeling a sense of betrayal from a system that has failed to provide them with the opportunities they need to achieve their goals.

Naturally, young adults are not happy with this state of affairs. The study found that 64% of young adults believe that owning a home is harder now than it was for their parents’ generation. Millennials are also less likely to believe that buying a home is a good investment, with only 40% saying that they believe owning a home is a wise financial decision.

As someone in their prime homebuying years, this article resonated with me. I often think about buying a house and the future it represents, but it’s hard to ignore the feeling that homeownership is a pipe dream for many young adults. It’s unfair that so many are being shut out of a system that so values equity and property ownership.

In conclusion, the fact that so many young adults feel locked out of the housing market is a worrying trend that should not be ignored. As the backbone of the American economy, young adults need opportunities to build equity and establish financial stability. Hopefully, through education, advocacy, and policy reform, the housing market can become more accessible for everyone.
