So, I just read this article about Carole Baskin’s Big Cat Rescue closing down in Florida. Basically, the sanctuary has been around for many years - it’s where Carole Baskin rescued her tigers, which were the subject of the Netflix show Tiger King. The reason for the closure is actually pretty sad. Apparently, the sanctuary had to shut down due to financial issues related to COVID-19. While it’s definitely a bummer that the sanctuary won’t be open to visitors anymore, it’s always good to see organizations doing the responsible thing and shutting down before they rack up too much debt.
To be honest, I’m not exactly an expert on big cats or animal sanctuaries - but I have visited a few similar places around the world. It’s always been an incredible experience to see these animals up close and to learn more about the important work that these organizations do. They play such a crucial role in protecting endangered species and providing a safe, healthy environment for animals that have been rescued from abusive situations.
But I digress - back to Big Cat Rescue. It’s definitely sad to see it go, but I’m hopeful that other animal sanctuaries will continue to thrive and do important work. In the meantime, it’s a good reminder to keep supporting organizations that are doing good things for animals, whether that’s through donations, volunteer work, or simply spreading the word. I think we can all agree that protecting endangered species is important work, and we should do what we can to support it.
