I just read this wild article about a CEO who practically forced his employees back to the office, and when one worker wouldn’t budge because they didn’t have anyone to care for their dog, the CEO demanded that they sell the dog so they could come back to work. And then he threw a party to celebrate the worker’s “dedication”! Nuts, right?
Basically, this CEO is a real piece of work, and it’s pretty disheartening to see people being treated like that. It feels like we’re all just supposed to be automatons who show up to work and never have any personal problems or responsibilities. But that’s just not realistic or fair.
I can kind of relate to this situation, actually. When I was working an office job, my boss was always pressuring me to work weekends even though I had a bunch of family events and obligations that I couldn’t skip. I ended up quitting because it just wasn’t worth the stress.
So yeah, it’s important to remember that work is just one part of our lives, and our employers shouldn’t treat us like we’re owned by them. It’s okay to have boundaries and stand up for ourselves - even if it means selling the family dog (although I sincerely hope that’s not necessary for anyone).
