An incredible story of a dog’s perseverance comes out of Ohio, as a pup who spent over 300 days at the Ashland County Animal Shelter finally found her forever home. The shelter staff first named her “Harriet,” and they quickly learned that she was friendly, loving, and well-behaved. Despite her excellent qualities, no one seemed to pine for her affection, and she went month after month without going home, breaking the shelter’s previous records for the dog that had been there the longest. However, everything changed on Monday when a family, the Dreibelbis, came to the shelter and adopted the sweet dog. No one did more celebrating than Harriet, who loved car rides and wagged her tail like crazy when they visited the shelter previously. Her new family was ecstatic and took her home right away. While Harriet’s stay was unusually long, it’s unfortunately not uncommon for dogs to wait months or even years to be adopted from shelters. This story highlights the importance of pet adoption and encourages all animal lovers to consider adopting their next pet.
