In 1925, a sled dog named Balto helped carry life-saving medicine through blizzards. A new DNA study reveals what made him so tough.

So, I just read this super cool article about Balto, the sled dog hero who helped deliver life-saving medicine through blizzards back in 1925. The crazy thing is, a new DNA study just revealed what made him so tough!

Basically, Balto was part of a team of sled dogs who delivered the medicine to a remote town in Alaska during a deadly diphtheria outbreak. It was an insane journey, with temperatures dropping to -40 degrees and blizzards raging all around them. But somehow, Balto and his buddies persevered and saved countless lives in the process.

Now, scientists have analyzed Balto’s DNA and figured out that he had a particular genetic mutation that made him better able to withstand extreme cold and exertion. It’s kind of like he was built for the job.

I don’t know about you, but I think it’s pretty amazing that we’re still learning new things about a dog who lived almost a century ago. Plus, it’s a great reminder that sometimes our greatest strengths come from the things that make us different.

Anyway, I highly recommend checking out the article for yourself. It’s a fascinating read and definitely worth your time!
