Meet Unicorn, a Loveland cat shelter's extremely rare male calico kitten

Have you ever heard of a male calico kitten? Well, neither had the staff at a Loveland, Colorado cat shelter until they met Unicorn. This extremely rare feline has a unique blend of orange, black, and white fur and is almost entirely male. In fact, male calicos like Unicorn are estimated to only occur in one out of every 3,000 calico cats.

Unicorn was brought to the shelter as a stray kitten and quickly captured the hearts of the staff with his playful and affectionate demeanor. Despite being born with a genetic abnormality that makes him almost entirely sterile, Unicorn is a happy and healthy kitten who loves to cuddle and play with his feline roommates.

While Unicorn’s unique appearance may be what initially catches people’s attention, his story highlights the importance of animal shelters and the work they do. Without the care and resources provided by the shelter staff, Unicorn may not have survived on his own as a stray kitten.

If you’re looking to adopt a new furry friend, consider checking out your local animal shelter. Who knows, you may even come across your own rare gem like Unicorn.
