So, I just read this crazy article about a mom who’s getting a ton of backlash for keeping her dog even after it bit her three-year-old daughter’s face. Basically, the dog got spooked and nipped the kid, but the mom insists it was just a fluke and that she’s taken steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again. But people are calling for her to get rid of the dog, saying it’s too big a risk to keep it around kids.
Personally, I totally get where the mom’s coming from. I mean, sure, it’s scary when a dog bites someone, but it doesn’t necessarily mean the dog is vicious or anything. Sometimes they just get scared or overwhelmed and don’t know how to express themselves properly. I have a dog myself, and while he’s never bitten anyone, I can understand how it might happen in certain situations. But on the other hand, I can also see why people are worried. Kids’ safety always has to come first, and if there’s even a chance the dog might bite again, it’s not worth the risk.
In the end, I think it’s up to the mom to make the call. She knows her dog best, and she knows her kid best, so she’s in the best position to judge whether the two can coexist safely. But it’s definitely a tricky situation, and one that highlights the importance of being vigilant when it comes to dogs and kids. You never know when something might happen, and it’s better to be safe than sorry.
