If you’re looking for a furry friend to add to your family, now might be the time to act. More than 70 large dogs are at risk of being put down in Philadelphia by next week, according to ACCT Philly, the city’s animal shelter. The dogs, which include Pitbulls, Rottweilers, and German Shepherds, are all over 40 pounds and have been in the shelter for more than two weeks. ACCT Philly is urging people to adopt or foster as soon as possible.
The shelter explains that large dogs are more difficult to place in homes, so they often spend longer in the shelter than smaller breeds. Due to limited space and resources, the shelter may be forced to put the dogs down if they are not adopted or fostered.
To help incentivize adoptions, ACCT Philly is offering discounted adoption fees for large dogs until September 19th. Adopters will receive a “Forever Home” bag, which includes toys, treats, and a leash, to ensure the dog has a smooth transition into their new home.
Animal shelters across the country face similar challenges with overcrowding and limited resources, making it crucial for people to consider adoption when looking for a new pet. Not only does adopting save a life, but it also helps alleviate the burden on shelters and encourages responsible pet ownership. So, if you’re considering expanding your family with a furry companion, why not consider adopting a lovable large dog?
