Must Love Dogs Was Not in the Job Description

I just read this article titled “Must Love Dogs Was Not in the Job Description” and it was so entertaining! It’s about this girl who ended up having to take care of her boss’s dog during work hours, even though it wasn’t part of her job description.

Basically, the girl starts a new job and is excited to get started. But on her first day, her boss introduces her to the office dog, Dobby, and tells her to keep an eye on him while she works. At first, it’s not a big deal - Dobby is well-behaved and mostly just sleeps. But as time goes on, the girl realizes that taking care of Dobby is taking up a lot of her time and making it hard for her to do her actual job.

I could relate to this story so much because I used to work at a pet store and people would always assume that I loved animals so much that I didn’t mind cleaning up after them or taking care of them for free. But the truth is, just because you work in a place that has animals, doesn’t mean you’re automatically a dog whisperer or a cat lady!

The article goes on to talk about how the girl ended up quitting her job because of the dog situation, and how her former boss was sort of surprised and didn’t understand why it was such a big deal. But for the girl, it was a matter of boundaries and feeling like she wasn’t being respected as an employee.

Overall, I think this article highlights a really interesting aspect of workplace culture - the idea that sometimes people can take advantage of their employees’ kindness or eagerness to please. It’s important to remember that just because someone is willing to go the extra mile, doesn’t mean they should have to. And as for me, I’ll stick to playing with puppies on my own time!
