Sharing Facebook post about lost pet could lead to a rental scam

I just read an article about a rental scam that’s been going around Facebook involving lost pets. Basically, scammers are creating fake rental ads for apartments and houses, and then posting pictures of “lost” pets to make it seem more legitimate. When someone shares the post to help find the missing pet, the scammers then reach out to them claiming to have the pet and asking for a deposit or payment to be sent in order to get it back.

It’s really frustrating and disheartening to think that people would stoop so low as to take advantage of someone’s love for their pets. I remember when my cat went missing a few years ago, I was willing to do just about anything to get him back. But thankfully, I didn’t fall for any scams like this.

The article offers some helpful tips to avoid falling for these rental scams, like doing a reverse Google image search on the pictures in the ad to see if they’re being used elsewhere, and never sending money before seeing a property in person. It’s important to always be cautious when dealing with online transactions, especially when they’re related to housing or other big ticket items.

Overall, I think this is an important reminder that we need to be careful about the information we share online and the deals we consider. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of finding a missing pet or a great rental opportunity, but we need to take the time to do our due diligence and make sure everything is legitimate before handing over any money.
